How your child scans on and off the bus depends on your district’s setup. Some school systems have bar code or RFID proximity readers on their buses and provide bar code cards or RFID cards/fobs that the students scan as they enter and exit the bus.

If the district has included the appropriate data in their software setup, your student can use Bus Pass, which displays their student ID bar code on a smartphone and can be scanned by the bus’s bar code reader (see What Is Bus Pass?).

Alternatively, if your school district has mobile data terminals (MDTs), the drivers can select the names of the students as they board and exit the bus. This is often used for bus routes that serve special-needs children.
